Final PSC Comp Completed

Contest 5 ( Season 2013/14 ) 29th March 2014

And that brings us to the end of another great season! 2-4ft waves all day with light winds and pleasant sunshine at first carpark - maybe just the hangover cure required for some after last week's 40th shenanigans.

We saw some epic surfing across the season, and the typical players provided more of this yesterday at Gunna. Highlights:

Rip Everett's first open heat progression ... followed by some great surfing from Rip, Charlie and Max Burton on the grom station lefts at high tide ... The B-Grade world title showdown between an in-form Dylstagram and happy-go-lucky Critta who's nonchalant approach has kept him in the race all year. Frontside carves all round with Chris Wilko joining the party and taking an early lead... who will claim the coveted aggregate title?! - Gully's cracking left in his cadet final ... Calum Nicolson ripping all day... as were Mikey, Mike Antonie (well done on your first open final) and Jack Winter ... Lance v Burto v Shan in the senior mens battle. Possibly the highest scoring heat as the waves turned on ... Gonga turning back the clock! ... Homer throwing down some big turns in the senior masters, and Darren Bird's all round ripping in Grand Masters.

Stay tuned for details on either a cash comp or Westernport v Gunnamatta intra-club battle in May if the waves look epic.

Preso night is looking like late May or early June - before school holidays and the selfish president's Mexican vacation (I'm joking Ads - you've killed it all year mate, well done). See you down the beach soon. Lachy & BMC.

A picture perfect autumn day on Sunday greeted us for presentations and wrap up for this season. As usual the trophies Phil Triggs made were in some cases works of art and the gift bag lucky dip was full of good gear. We even had our own local celebrity Hannah Trigger just back from competing in the winter Olympics giving out trophies and hopefully inspiring the kids to strive for their dreams...

Our kids dominate junior titles

Well done PSC Groms who put in amazing efforts at the Phillip Island State Titles at Woolamai. Joel Wookey dominated a challenging final to take the Island U/18 Boys Title, a fantastic effort and his first state title!

Gully Steelhead placed 2nd overall in U/16 Boy state final in a very strong and competitive field. Piper Harrison dominated the U/14 Girls division winning semis and finals with multiple waves in the execllent ranges and taking out both the Gunna and Island rounds.

Will Antonie surfed extremely well in the challenging conditions making the Semi Final of the U/16 and just missed out on the final by 0.1, Rip Everett surfed strongly through to his first State Under 14 Boys Semi Final and placed 5th Overall at Phillip Island. Jett Dickinson has been in fine form placing 3rd at Gunna state round and 5th at the Island state round. Marlon Harrison placed 4th in U/14 Boys Final at the Gunna round.

We also had some fantastic performances from Charlie Lucas, Max Burton and Nick Ford. The future of PSC is in good hands and being very well represented by the PSC juniors. Congrats to all the groms!

Georgia takes on the World

Our own Georgia Fish is currently ranked 5th in the One World Womens Rankings after making the quarters and narrowly missing semi's by 0.03 in the Hurley Australian Open in Manly. Go get 'em in Newcastle G.

Comp 4 : We Love Onshore!

How the hell could it be? 40 degree forecast and supposed nor-easterly winds... well we were happy to skip the 40 degree heat, but geez we felt a bit hard-done-by with the morning onshores!

Irrespective, the waves were pretty fun. For most of the day we enjoyed 2-4ft double-ups through the inside, and a couple of brave souls even slayed some chunky overhead sections out the back.

Highlights ... Shan Creasey surfing his way through 7 heats in 2 divisions and providing multiple highlight rides - well done mate. ... Reidy and his goodtimes barrel riding, 10 pts for easily the wave of the day, a well slotted tube into a massive, full-rail carve. A deserving winner ... LMC with some epic rail work in his old-boys final. Slaying it! ... Will Antonie making a couple of open heats - Nice ... Mitch Jessop's first win in cadets ... Tabby's foray into an open heat - had boyfriend Tom Lyon shaking in his boots. We always love watching girls beat boys... come on Tabs, please keep doing opens ... Barber's near miss in the open final... so close mate. Spewing. We loved the tube ... But we liked Caiden's 2 wave combo more, capped off with an epic snap back into a chunky bowl.

Thanks to all who helped as always, Lachy & BMC.

Lachy McDonald, PSC Single Fin Classic 2014 Winner
Smoking Weather and Fun Waves at the 2014 PSC Australia Day Single Fin Classic

How could we not run it? With packed carparks from Portsea to Flinders we had to exercise our right to claim the best bank on the coast on Monday 27th of January and surf it with 5 other blokes... who cares if we were bogging and squandering some classic waves!

Hangovers and MIA's meant a slow start and a huge effort from Morgan Winch and co to get the day up and running. Thanks to Tim Antonie and later Skip for keeping the comp going, and to Morgs for doing almost everything else. Awesome effort lads.

The rest of us did our bit in between some very enjoyable surfs! 2-3ft peelers, at times resembling First Point Noosa had all competitors hooting and hollering... and generally making pigs of ourselves in the classic/uncrowded waves.

Highlights...
- Sam Chalmers with some excellent 70s style... his toes on the nose tuberide was awesome. Unlucky not to progress.
- Standard groms trying to figure out how to turn the un-turnable!
- Tabby representing the ladies and doing a great job of it.
- Gav Duffy ripping all day...
- ...as was LMC - excellent 70s style and technique, and possibly unlucky not to bag a good wave in either final.
- Tex being Tex - cover-ups and multiple maneuvers on a very good board.
- Lance's contagious enthusiasm and all round ripping - highest wave score of the day (I think!?).

Well done to all who surfed on a great day, and to Lachy, Tex, Gully, Tabby and Gav on their wins. Thanks again to those who carried the workload... well done. Its a great club. Photos to come

Supergroms 15th Dec 2013

There were a few missing faces on Sunday when we kicked off our second event of the season in 2-3ft Crunchy Point with an on shore breeze. It must be all the end of the year activities that side tracked some of our regular groms. Anyway I'll bet that whatever they were doing it was better than long 2-3ft rollers angling across the reef for the competition?

We still had a strong turn out though with about 50 competitors including a few newcomers and some old stalwarts returning. There were some great little inside waves for the U9 and U11's and we saw plenty of good long rides. We also saw some very good individual performance surfing with some high scores particularly in the U13's and U15's. Once more it was wave selection that proved the difference with the rides linking up on the inside the key.

Comp 3 - Another Great Day

7th December 2013 : View RESULTS // View PHOTOS ››

Epic weather and fun 2-3ft waves meant we were back at it again on Saturday the 7th of December for the 3rd Aggregate contest for 2013/14.

Early morning north-west winds had the natural footers frothing at a chance for some right double-up tubes at Gunna 1st carpark and the early open heats set the tone for a great day of surfing.

We progressed through early cadet and junior finals with some excellent surfing, and as the day wore on and the sun shone brighter the swell increased! Against the projected forecast too, mind you. By mid-afternoon some solid head-high and bigger sets had the members frothing.

The highlights as we saw them:
Young Gully Steelhead's return from Bali produced some exciting surfing in a springsuit! Crazy young kid's body temperature must be out of whack ... Jack Winter's 9 point ride for 2 monster backhand belts - solid surfing ... Jason Owen and Ryan Wilcox doing the Westernport warriors proud in the older divisions ... Reidy's drop in on Lachy (I saw that one first hand... the ultimate burn after some serious trash talk - great heat strategy mate) ... Caiden, Hayden, Barbs, Caiden and Cal ripping throughout the open draw ... Charlie Lucas and Jamie Reichelt taking maiden victories in their respective divisions ... Naomi and Matilda doing a decent job in the right double-ups ... Mikey's 10 point air-reverse 2ft above the lip, full rotation, landed in the flats on the days biggest wave. 10 seconds after the final siren. Spewing buddy ... The Hawaiian shirts and party skirts at the season opening party - a damn good night.

Next comp is likely to be the Australia Day Weekend Single Fin classic! Stay tuned for more dates. Thanks, Lachy and BMC

PSC Comp 2 : fun waves, good weather and great vibes!

With the crummy weather coming to an end (for the fortnight anyway), and a forecast 2-3ft swell we had no option but to call comp 2 on for November 16th. From the feedback given, it sounds like everyone had an epic day, with some fun double-ups at times and a great turn-out.

GROMS
Supergroms #1 Completed

Sunday 20th October 2013 / Little Noosa / Shoreham / VIC

Swell and weather on Sunday came in as predicted except for the stronger N-NNW wind. This caused the relocation of the event to the shelter of Little Noosa Point at Pines. This is probably a first for Supergroms but proved an inspired choice when we drove in to see clean 1-3’ peaks breaking left off the point into Pines bay. A hot day, hot waves and a beautiful sandy beach, what more could you ask for!

Caiden Fowler PSC
1st PSC Comp Completed

12 October 2013 / 1st Carpark Gunnamatta

VIEW : RESULTS : PHOTOS ››

Peninsula Surfriders Club's first aggregate contest kick-off at Gunnamatta. With a solid swell and strong winds a tough decision was made to get things started at First Carpark.

The Open division kicked off in the challenging left-hand double-ups, and carry-over club President Adam Morris provided an early highlight with multiple airs - including a high-scoring (8.5 point ride) for one full-rotation air reverse. Other strong performances came from Hayden Forrest after an over-slept alarm, Caiden Fowler, Mikey Barber, Cal Nicolson and Jack Winter.

A low tide brought everyone's worst fears and the surf became uncontestable, forcing contest directors to put the day on hold for 90 minutes (ASP style!). Debate flared amongst contest directors and committee (and everyone else actually) about shifting the remainder of the day to Flinders. The decision was made to stay put, citing an earlier decision as more appropriate for the shift if one were to happen.

A strong NW blast served up some challenging double-ups as the tide turned and the Junior and Cadet boys made the most of their 30 minute finals with Joel Wookey and Billy White doing a solid job in the tough conditions. Credit must also go to the Groms and Junior girls division (Naomi Taylor who also did an awesome job at the Teams event at 4-6ft Bells a few weeks back) - a great effort to do so well in the tough conditions!

The day rolled along with exciting surfing across the older divisions - Lance Wheeler, Hydey and Straussy the victors in some hard-fought finals.

As the tide neared full and the swell peaked (not as per forecast!), the Open Semis and Final provided the greatest performances. Congratulations to Cal Nico on his Open win, taking down Lachy, Mikey Barber (best surfer of the day in our opinion), and Gus.

A good little crew enjoyed a cold drink and quick presentation back at the clubhouse around 530pm. For those who don't hang around you should definitely make the effort to more regularly - our clubrooms are so good and kicking the footy and having a beer on the lawn is all-time.

Thanks to those who helped out, and well done to anyone who dodged the flying tent. Next comp is forecast for October 26th with a back-up date of November 16th. Fingers crossed the banks improve and we can enjoy another great day in the sun on the Mornington Peninsula. (Lachy & BMC)

PSC Presentation Night 2013
Liam Wins 2012/13 Open Title

Congratulations to Liam Jolly for winning the 2012/13 Peninsula Surfriders Club Championship, over Angus Forrst (2nd) and Josh Hallam (3rd).

Thanks to everyone who attended our annual Presentation Night on the 15th of June at Mornington Scout Hall. It was a great night and we have had lots of good feedback from the new venue.

A big congratulations to all division winners and to the committee and president, Adam Morris, on another fantastic year. Full season results to come shortly. To all that helped make the night happen, thank you! Also thanks to Martin Potter as special guest.

We will be holding our annual AGM over the coming months, so stay tuned if you are keen to be involved with the club at a greater level next season.

Final PSC Contest Completed

Just as the season kicked off with a flurry of contests, the season closed in a similar fashion. Whilst most people were sceptical of the forecast, winds were lighter than expected and the swell (although super peaky) wasn't too bad for most of the day before becoming smaller in the afternoon. With one of the better days of weather seen on a weekend in months, the vibe at the contest was super fun and it was great to see people hanging around the beach to help judge, etc. There was also a major increase in the number of judges for this contest, so thanks to all of those who helped out.

We have 6,000 trees to plant. We just need everyone to please dig ten holes and we will be right - we have received funding for the trees (and yes they are still only very small). Supergrom presentation also on sunday at the club so come down and support the up and coming shredders!

Comp 3 2012/13 run and won

Contest three was run on Saturday the 24th of Nov 2012. We had firing waves for most part of the morning, some calling some of the best waves we have had in a contest for a few years to date. Whilst the conditions would deteriorate after lunch with the dropping tide and onshore breeze, it couldn't put a dampener on the waves and weather earlier in the day.

There was a lot of really solid surfing in the 3-4ft rip bowls at second carpark, but no one could forget Josh Hallam's 10 point barrel on a rogue peak out the back. Congratulations to Josh who also took out his first Open Division win (the day after his 21st birthday). All other divisions had a real crack in the rip bowls, including the grommets and legends who got the worst of the conditions around the dead low tide. Congratulations to all division winners, take a look at the RESULTS ››

Please note that we will be running 2 contests next year where there will be 2 x Girls divisions and 1 contest next year where there will be 2 x Womens and Grand Master divisions. Wahu Grom Contest

Held at Ocean Grove over the last weekend in medium to very small conditions for the finals. The event was held in crumbly beachies at Ocean Grove. We had lots of keen PSC grommies competing.

James Easton, Jett Dickinson, Max Burton, Charlie Lucas, India Lucas, Ella De Graf, Ripley Everett, Chris Hogg, Piper and Marlon Harrison. The two round system meant everyone surfs two rounds and points are allocated for placings and after two rounds top 4 go into the final based on placings and highest wave score. Everyone surfed well in the very challenging conditions. Most placing 3 or 4th in their rounds.

Piper and Marlon did well and made their respective finals. Marlon top scored on the saturday with 9.17 ride and went onto come 2nd overall in the under 9 Boys final. Piper won the Under 15 girls final and came 4th in a waveless under 13 girls final. Well done to all kids whom compete. I have attached the link with results and write-ups.

PSC Comp #2 Completed

The second contest for the 13/14 season was completed in sunny weather on Saturday the 10th of November. The day turned out better than expected and there were some solid rip bowls on offer with plenty of crew spending more time under water than above in their heats.

The vibe around the contest sites has been great this year, mainly thanks to our new sponsors on board who have enabled us to purchase a new sound system pumping out tunes and commentary all day long! New and old faces are also joining the club, it was great to see some familiar faces.

Thanks again for everyone lending a hand on the day, it is proving to be invaluable! There are too many to thank, but a big thanks again to Gangers who was on the BBQ all day.

Congratulations to all division winners and all our injured shredders who put on an absolute show for everyone on the lids. Some were calling it the best heat of the day, with several 9's dropping and a 10 for Gobrat's epic gut slide, who can forget Fraser out back free falling on a solid 5ft close out.

Conditions are looking suspect for this weekend, but keep your eye on the site, Facebook, Instagram or your mobile for the latest news. Luke

Rip Curl Grom Search 2012

A few our Groms made the journey and commitment to compete in the RipCurl GromSearch held at Torquay over the holidays. Jett Dickinson, Charlie Lucas, Ripley Everett, Piper and Marlon Harrison compete in this National event. Kids from Queensland and NSW were represented in all divisions. Started off in great weather sunshine and clean waves and ended up Antartic, windy, miserable and ft onshore Jan Juc. Despite this all our PSC grommies flew the flag high. Great efforts form all the boys however none made the final. Piper made the final of the 12 and Under girls and achieved a credible second despite being very unwell with gastro.

AGM 2012 Completed

With AGM behind us, we now have a new crew for the 2012/13 season.

Firstly, a huge thanks to Ryan Chalmers and those behind him for a great season just passed. As Ryan stated at the AGM, he learnt a lot this year from being the youngest president of the club and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Behind the scene for the past few years, Jane Featherston has also put in more time that most. Although her efforts may sometimes go unheard of, they are always very appreciated. Thank you Jane for pouring so much time and love into the club..we know you will still be around to help out!

The new committee for this year will be led my Adam Morris. Congrats Morrie! Supporting him will be Gus as Vice President, Morgs as treasurer, Robbo as secretary, Luke as Contest Director, Lachy as assistant CD, Tim in a new role as head judge, Rod as assistant head judge, Tabby as women's rep, Will as junior rep and Caiden, Ryan, Plans, Jolly, Mikey, Dos, Ronnie and Tim Williams all on the general committee.

A lot went down at the AGM, including the decision to move to an electronic judging system. We will also have a reliable power source throughout the day to keep the tunes and commentary (surely by the one and only Reidy) flowing smoothly. Other announcements will be made soon!

Stay tuned for news alerts and newsletter for the 2012/13 season. Hopefully we can get some half decent waves...we might even go left this year! Luke

HPC pushes PSC surfing to next level

Gary Cruikshank (ASA national head coach) spent the 23rd to 26th of Jan with our club members. 34 club members from Marlon Harrison aged 8 to Darren Bird aged 46 participated and all benefited from the tips Gary gave each person to improve their surfing technique.

This is the fourth or fifth year that Gary has come down and we can see the impact he has had on this standard of surfing for the individuals who had been involved in that period including Caiden, Mikey Barber, Adam Morris, Josh, Hayden and Angus, Lachy, Grant, Tom and Mike Antonie, Tom Lyon, Darcy, Mitch Hayes, Sam Chalmers, Georgia, Matilda etc.

The waves were fairly good each day with the first three days at Gunna and Rye and Australia Day at Pt Leo which worked well as this day was set aside for the Groms. The ability to use the facilities at the clubrooms for Video analysis and advice is simply awesome.

Everyone who we have spoken to have raved about the benefit of having such a great coach come down to spend the time. Remember not to forget what Gary said - including your homework for the Groms!!

We will look to see if we can get Gary for a full week next year given how strong the demand was this year...
