Presidents Report : October 2014

Welcome back folks to a fresh, new upcoming season of PSC! The AGM resulted in many new concepts that should allow even more enjoyment through a great club! After much deliberating post season, I decided to do another year as president for the club. Before we move onto the new season, on behalf of the club I would like to thank several groups; the previous committee for the dedication and support throughout the season, especially Morgan and Jane for continuously giving, then to all the people behind the scenes, especially the sub-committee who put in mountains of work for the amazing PSC 40th Birthday celebration event, friends and family attached to the club who make our cogs turn over and of course, you, the members. Presentation night was a nice and warm club affair, with the clubrooms being decked out to hold a great night, good food and a rockin band. I would like to congratulate to all division champions and Caiden on his 2nd Club Champion trophy, results are the psc.org.au website and there are many left trophies at the clubrooms, please collect after the first contest or pop in a say hey to Robbo.

New Season: All right, welcome to the new season and the new committee. As you can see the new committee and their details are embedded in the ‘whitewash’. I will let new contest director Liam McCafferty detail the new set up, but basically resulting from the AGM, the new PSC season will run as a calendar year. Why? Season starts hot and finishes hot, good for the competition and presentation night. 7 competitions, best 5. We also have pencilled in 4 novelty contests this year, Single Fin on Australia Day, Cash Comp, ‘Battle of the Bay’ (against 13th Boardriders) and Bay Bashers vs Gunna Rats (intra club team event). A massive Summer Party is being planned so stay tuned for that, bands, skate jam, funky outfits, slip n slides, all going down…!!!!

As a club, we must be proud of some performances outside of the club events. We can not go past our golden girl, G Fish. This little superstar has been a shining example of what hard work, determination and great approach can do for you, demonstrating what exactly you can do if you put your mind to it. She’s killing it on the WQS with strong semi-final and quarter final positions popping up everywhere, good luck for the rest of the year. I may as well say the power couple, as Caiden has signed up to be the first male PSC WQS warrior in a long time (Watto the last??), he’s been making heats and racking up valuable points to start in the prime 6 star events next year. Ballsy effort also and we’re all stoked for you.

PSC at state and national level. Been a long time since we can say this but we have 2 state champs in the clubrooms, congratulations G Fish (who smoked the season) and of course our little wonderchild (well he’s bigger than me) Joel Wookey. Joel put together a fantastic year winning a comp and placing strong in the other two to take the coveted title, allowing him to make it to the state team level to go to nationals! Piper also finished high in the season and is currently away doing the training for state team also. Jett Dicko and Gully Steelhead have had some great results in semis and finals, with Max Burto, Marlon, Rip, Willy Antonie all posting there best results into semis as well. So as I said, the future looks fantastic for PSC.

So to the future, I think there is a need for strong junior development in clubs and there are areas in which PSC has been improving over the last half a decade thru help of mel, harry, skip, strauss and so on. But here are some prospects that are becoming a reality. We have signed Hayden Forrest up to get his Level 2 Surf Coach cert. so he will become the official Surf Coach for Juniors, with Gary Cruikshank to come back and coach over the summer again and Martin Potter to wander down and help out the groms with technique also. Looking to invest in a camera to facilitate the coaching, along with set night where the groms can do surf specific fitness training with Pottz’ trainer if they are looking to gain an extra edge over their competitors. It is an exciting time for groms and I think they need all the support and help they can get. (But they can stop paddling for waves that belong to the president of the club)

Hope this Season will be EPIC!!! Everyone get up and about… YEWWW.
